Deep Listening in Central Australia: Three Weeks on Country
Deep Listening to Nature has returned to Central Australia.
This September, founder and accredited Uluṟu–Kata Tjuṯa guide Iris Ray Nunn is preparing to welcome around 60 guests over three weeks, beginning in Alice Springs and continuing through the extraordinary landscapes of Central Australia.
The intention is simple:
Slow down. Listen deeply. Experience Country. Come into ourselves.
For Deep Listening to Nature, travelling through this landscape is not about moving quickly from one attraction to the next.
It is about making space to notice.
The changing light.
The desert plants.
The silence.
The scale of the sky.
The feeling of walking rather than rushing.
And, where cultural experiences are shared, listening respectfully to Aṉangu people and the knowledge they choose to share.
Listening through Uluṟu, Kata Tjuṯa and Watarrka
Deep Listening to Nature journeys through Central Australia can include Uluṟu, Kata Tjuṯa and Watarrka, with mindful walking, periods of silence, sunrise and sunset, time for reflection and Aṉangu-led cultural experiences where available and appropriate.
The practice is deliberately uncomplicated.
Walk slowly.
Listen.
Rest.
Notice what is around you.
Allow enough time for the landscape to become more than something you are looking at.
The DLTN Central Australia retreat program has been developed around this rhythm: early walks, deep listening in nature, cultural learning, quiet afternoons, campfire meals and time beneath the desert sky.
It is a different way of experiencing the Red Centre.
“I am a part of all this beauty”
One phrase returns again and again through Deep Listening to Nature:
“I am a part of all this beauty, all this beauty is a part of me.”
It captures something at the heart of the work.
Nature is not simply somewhere we travel to.
We are already part of it.
And sometimes it takes an immense landscape — red earth, old rock, desert oaks and a night sky filled with stars — to help us remember.
This season’s three weeks in Central Australia are another opportunity to practise exactly that: listening to Earth, listening respectfully on Aṉangu Country, and giving people enough time and space to feel their own relationship with the living world.
Experience Central Australia with Deep Listening to Nature
Deep Listening to Nature offers private Central Australia experiences for groups. Perhaps it’s your family, friends, your team, or your organisation.
Iris is an accredited Uluṟu–Kata Tjuṯa guide, and DLTN’s private journeys use established Central Australia programs across Uluṟu, Kata Tjuṯa, Watarrka and the wider Central Desert, leaving room for a group’s own work without requiring the group leader to design the journey from scratch.
